Senegal vs Guinea 0-0 Draw | AFCON 2022

Pre-tournament favourites Senegal failed to impress again as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday 14th January 2022

Beaten 2019 finalists Senegal remains the highest-ranked team at AFCON this year, though struggled to find a way past Zimbabwe in their opening fixture on Monday.

But this is looks like another difficult contest against Guinea, whose team includes the likes of Mane’s Anfield team-mate Naby Keita and Roma’s Amadou Diawara.

After Cameroon’s decisive win over Ethiopia yesterday, Senegal will look to step up a gear this afternoon as they try and seal a place in the knockouts with a match to spare.

Kaba Diawara’s side have also been struggling with a Covid-19 outbreak, though did still manage to see off Malawi earlier this week courtesy of left-back Issiaga Sylla’s first-half goal.

Senegal’s 10 missing players, all out because of COVID-19 infections, included captain Kalidou Koulibaly and first choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who also missed their opening game on Monday, as well as Idrissa Gana Gueye and Fode Ballo Toure, who tested positive following the narrow 1-0 win over Zimbabwe in their opening match.

“It’s been very difficult for us with all of these missing players,” Senegal coach Aliou Cisse said.
